THE CHALLENGE:
The customer was rolling out a new robotic cell system powered by Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) to deliver product directly to an existing packaging line. However, integrating new automation with their legacy systems posed a series of complex engineering challenges. They needed custom conveyors, vertical transport, and advanced communication between multiple machines—all while maintaining uptime and minimizing costly rework.
THE SOLUTION:
We collaborated closely with the customer to engineer a fully integrated material handling solution. This included the design and fabrication of custom conveyors and a space-efficient elevator tailored to fit seamlessly within the robotic cell layout. Leveraging our in-house tube lasers, CNC mills, and burn tables, we built over a dozen precision-fit conveyors designed to transport products cleanly, without spillage.
Our engineering team also upgraded the communication protocol on the customer's existing stretch wrap CPUs, enabling direct interaction with the AGV traffic controller. This avoided the need for costly CPU replacements and allowed the new and legacy systems to work in sync—saving both time and future integration expenses.
THE RESULTS:
Our streamlined design, custom fabrication, and smart integration not only accelerated the rollout of the robotic cell, but also delivered significant cost savings. So much so, the customer was able to double their order of robotic arms—maximizing throughput without increasing their original budget.
